Mushroom Extract FAQ

Yes. About 26% organic cane alcohol. The rest is a potent hot-water extraction.

Together that's what makes it a double extraction, pulling both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds from the mushroom for maximum effect.

All of our tinctures are gluten-free except Cordyceps.

Learn why Cordyceps is grown on grain.

Store tinctures in a cool, dark place out of direct sunlight. A kitchen cabinet or nightstand is perfect.

DO NOT freeze or refrigerate tinctures. This may cause harmless changes in texture/consistency.

Shelf stable indefinitely, but we recommend using them within 3 years for max freshness.

Yes. Coffee, tea, juice, water - anything works as long as it isn't scalding. Let hot drinks cool to a comfortable drinking temperature first. High heat can degrade some of the beneficial compounds.

No. We use fruiting bodies and/or sclerotia. We don't work with pure mycelium or myceliated-grain at this time.

A trace amount of natural mycelium may be present at the base of the fruiting body, but that's it.

Yes. Taking multiple tinctures together is completely fine, and most of our customers do it. We encourage finding your Symbiotic Stack.

We don't recommend exceeding 8 different tinctures per day. For reference, a full serving of 8 tinctures contains about the same amount of alcohol as half a beer. That's the practical ceiling, not a hard rule.

One thing worth knowing: if you're already taking two or more individual tinctures, skip Fungi Five. It's a general wellness blend, and your custom stack already covers that ground. No need to double up.

If you're new to tinctures, start small. Take 1 to 2 at a time before adding more. It sounds obvious, but if you start everything at once, you won't know what's working for you.

While cats cannot have tinctures at all due to their alcohol content, dogs can greatly benefit from tinctures.

If Something Feels Off

You know your body best, here's where to start if your routine needs a change

Not Noticing Much?

Make sure you’re taking 4 squeezes per day. That's the serving where these wild-harvested extracts are designed to work. If you've been at 4 squeezes for a few weeks, give us a call to find a better fungi-fit.

Feeling Restless?

Drop to 2 squeezes (2mL) and see how you feel. You can work back up, or stay on a half dose if it works for you.

Feeling Sleepy?

Move your calming tincture to the evening. Or add an energizing one to your morning.

Feeling Unwell?

Stop use and reach out to us. We're not medical professionals, but we'll help you figure it out. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, on certain medications, or have surgery coming up, talk to your healthcare provider first.

Chaga has specific cautions - see here.

Serving Sizes Across Brands and Products

Not all mushroom tinctures are made the same way, and serving sizes reflect that.

The right dose depends on how the extract was made: how much mushroom went in, how it was extracted, and how concentrated the final liquid is. Our 4mL serving was built around our specific formulation to deliver an effective, high dose of mushroom. It's not arbitrary.

Dosage advice you find elsewhere may not translate. Form changes everything.

  • Whole mushrooms and culinary preparations have low bioavailability, one would have to eat a LOT (2000mg) to see any nutraceutical effect.
  • Liquid extractions like our Mushroom Tinctures are high dose and high bioavailability.
  • Powdered extracts land somewhere in between: high dose, but lower bioavailability than liquid.

Follow the serving size of the specific product you are using. You can find serving info on the back of the product.
