What are the benefits of mushroom tinctures? Mushroom tinctures offer a wide variety of benefits, many of which overlap among the different fungi we use. All of our tinctures support the immune system and the digestive system, and can help with your body’s stress management*. Each mushroom is unique and accomplishes these functions in different ways. For example, some tinctures are great for restful sleep and relaxation, especially our Reishi mushroom tincture and Artist Conk mushroom tincture. Other products like our Maitake mushroom tincture and Turkey Tail mushroom tincture help boost your immune system*. Cordyceps mushroom tincture is great for physical energy and stamina*. Because each mushroom works in its own unique way, using multiple mushroom tinctures together can provide compound benefits beyond just taking one on its own. For example, Chaga mushroom tincture and Lion’s Mane mushroom tincture are known to work very well together by providing different but complementary benefits to your body. Mushroom Tincture Benefits
Frequently Asked Questions
Our tinctures contain the extraction equivalent of 417 mg per serving.
Tinctures are best stored in a cool, dark place and out of direct sunlight. Too much heat from sunlight can start to break down some of those valuable compounds. A pantry, cabinet or cupboard is usually best for storage.
Tinctures are shelf stable indefinitely. Our tinctures are dated 3 years from production for max freshness and efficacy, but when stored properly they remain shelf stable.
By definition, the word tincture means it includes alcohol. That means there is no alcohol free mushroom tincture.
Birch Boys mushroom tinctures consist of a double extraction using both hot water and alcohol. Double extractions increase the potency of the tinctures because they capture both the water-soluble compounds–like antioxidants, amino acids, polysaccharides (include beta-glucan) and polyphenols–and alcohol-soluble compounds–like sterols, triterpenes, and lignin. Extracting these compounds from the mushrooms makes them bio-available and ready for your body to use. That’s why mushroom tinctures are superior to just eating mushrooms or drinking mushroom tea (which is a hot water extraction only).
How to Use Mushroom Tinctures
Birch Boys functional mushroom tinctures are full-strength extracts meant for daily use. The typical mushroom tincture dosage is 1–4 mL per day—about 1 to 4 squeezes of the dropper. You can take liquid mushrooms mixed into coffee, tea, water, smoothies, or directly under the tongue.
If you’re not sure how to take a mushroom tincture or how to use mushroom tinctures in a daily routine, start small and adjust based on your response. Our tinctures are potently crafted with the double extracted equivalent of 417mg of mushrooms per serving.
For everything else—when to take mushroom tinctures, how to stack mushroom extracts, what to expect from mushroom drops—our Mushroom Tincture Guide covers it all. It’s the most detailed resource on the site, and we keep it updated as new research comes out.
Why Alcohol?
Alcohol is one of the most important ingredients for a liquid mushroom extract. This is because certain valuable compounds like triterpenes aren’t soluble in water but are more readily soluble in alcohol. Any mushroom extract that doesn’t include alcohol is simply not as potent as liquid extracts that do use alcohol. We use alcohol at Birch Boys because we believe it’s the best natural way to extract mushrooms to maximize their health benefits.
